Company history/Owner bio:
The owner and founder, Sarah Fennell, started doing her own taxes while in college. "My father showed me the 1040EZ form & said, 'This is easy, I'll show you how to do it.' And it was!" She's done them ever since, once helping a roommate with hers.
Her husband started a landscape business shortly after they got married, so she researched the relevant tax laws herself and filed the taxes. The following year, she took a Liberty Tax Service class in Maryland, working for them that season. After moving to Columbus, OH, she worked for Liberty Tax Service for 2 more seasons, but grew tired of some of the practices she saw. She then worked for Laird's Tax Service for the next 2 seasons, but wasn't able to give it the time required. In 2006, her father, who had always done the family's taxes, asked her to do the federal one year when her mother's childhood inherited home was sold after renting it for several years. She managed to save them a significant amount in taxes.
Sarah has been a bookkeeper since 1998, the same year she got married, at first through temp agencies. She's had several bookkeeping jobs since then, working in a variety of for-profit fields, including real estate, landscaping, fast food and a non-profit trade association.
In 2007, between jobs, she decided to start her own business. After finding a job, she didn't have much time, working on the business a little here & there. In 2010, she found herself looking for another job opportunity. Part of that opportunity was in taking more time with the business.
Prior to bookkeeping, Mrs. Fennell taught adult English-for Speakers-of-Other-Languages (ESOL), middle school math, Spanish and Latin, as well as a variety of subjects as a high school substitute. She worked at the Drug Enforcement Administration in Washington, DC as a contract employee in three different departments before teaching. She obtained a B.A. in Spanish with a minor in Business Management from S.U.N.Y. College at Cortland and an M.A. in International Relations from Syracuse University. Mrs. Fennell comes from a large family spread out all over the country. She met and married her husband Joe while living in MD. They moved to Columbus, OH in 2002 where her husband grew up. They attend Linworth Road Church and keep busy with their dog, family functions and various church activities.
